Ricciardo looks back at decision to leave Red Bull
- Tom Mason
Daniel Ricciardo left Aston Martin Red Bull Racing last season to join Renault but the Australian has admitted that it was wasn't a straight forward decision for him to make. Ricciardo is currently ninth in the drivers' standings on 42 points while Renault are fifth in the constructors' championship on 77 points.
Ricciardo has won seven Grand Prix to date and while this season has been a struggle he felt that he needed a change for the 2019 season.
"It was certainly not an easy decision. I came to a point where I felt I was ready for change. I wanted a new challenge and needed renewed motivation," Ricciardo told the Official Formula One website.
"I had sleepless nights, wanted to find the best possible solution for my future. Once I 'pulled the trigger' I felt more comfortable and it felt good."
The Aussie will look to build on his positive performance at the Japanese Grand Prix where he finished in sixth.
