Villeneuve: Hamilton and Schumacher "only won when they had the best car"
Jacques Villeneuve is never one to mince his words and he's now claimed that Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher have only had the success they have had because they had the best car.
Schumacher holds the record for the most Formula 1 World Championships with seven titles whilst Hamilton is currently on five but is on course for a sixth this season. He has won four of the last five Drivers' Championships and holds the record for the most pole positions.
Villeneuve is a World Champion himself having one his only title in 1997 with Williams. The Canadian believes the legendary pair have only one so many World Championships because of their superior car.
Villeneuve was asked to compare the two drivers and responded in classic Villeneuve fashion.
“These two drivers only won when they had the best car,” Villeneuve told Motorsport-Total.
“They’ve always had the best car in their entire career and, if you put Lewis [Hamilton] in a Williams, you do not win.
“He’s super good and always makes the right decision as to which team to go to.
“There [at Mercedes] he builds a team around him, that’s all, he might not have won in a Ferrari.”
