Max Verstappen wants a strong teammate: "Then I will drive faster myself"
Max Verstappen is hoping that his teammate for next season will push him to be a better faster driver. Currently, the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing driver has dominated both Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon and is hoping for more competition next year.
"That is better for the team and ultimately for me too," Verstappen said to Verstappen.nl when asked if he prefers his teammate to be right behind him. "You have to work together to achieve the best result, but of course, you want to drive for your teammate."
Red Bull are likely to choose between Albon and Gasly for the 2020 seat and Verstappen has some insight on how the decision will be made.
“We have a lot of information and look at GPS data, among other things. We compare laps and I also look back at races. For example, it is interesting to see what is being said about the on-board radio. In addition, you know certain competitors better and you know how you can 'break' them more than others."
It will be interesting to see who Red Bull go with and whether they will actually be able to keep up with Verstappen.
