Dutch driver Max Verstappen has dissected his season so far, breaking it down into two halves, admitting that he was surprised as to how the first half of the season went. The 22-year-old claimed two race victories in Austria and Germany, while also consistently finishing in the top four.

Since the break he's had an 8th place finish and a DNF but has improved results in the last couple of races, ending 3rd in Russia and 4th in Singapore.

“I think the first part of the season went better than expected with those two wins," he told Verstappen.nl.

"In the second half of the season, you would expect that we would get better, but so far that has not happened.

"The past few races are somewhat against expectations, but the start of the season was positive. "
