Stoffel Vandoorne has had a good start to his Formula E career and is now driving for Mercedes' new Formula E team alongside Nick De Vries. The Belgian racer used to win very often but he has not won a race since 2016 in the Japanese Super Formula.

Vandoorne had been given an opportunity in Formula 1 but he was replaced by Lando Norris at McLaren for the 2019 season. However, with the Mercedes partnership, Vandoorne could find a Formula 1 opportunity coming his way. However, he is focusing on Formula E.

"Formula 1 is not something I am currently working on. Let me first go and win again, because that is what I mostly miss now," Vandoorne said to Motorsport.com.

"My two years at McLaren have not helped in that regard. Many people remember the two bad years I had with them, but for me the goal is to be competitive again and to win again as quickly as possible. My best chance now is in Formula E with Mercedes, so that's where my focus is.”

If Vandoorne performs well then he will keep the Formula 1 door ajar and as he already does simulator work for the Formula 1 team, his chances could be higher than he thinks.
