Andreas Seidl is happy with how McLaren have performed so far this season and is hoping that Carlos Sainz can battle with Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon for the 6th standing in the driver's championship.

"It is clear that we are heading for the future with these two contracted drivers. That clarity is fantastic for us," Seidl said to AS.com when asked about Sainz and Lando Norris. "Carlos has a lot of experience because he has worked with other teams in the past. If you hear him talking, you think he has an engineering degree, which is great."

McLaren have nearly cemented their position as "best of the rest" in the constructor's championship and Sainz will hope to finish 6th in the driver's championship.

"We have two rivals with Gasly and Albon. I hope we can continue this fight for as long as possible. But regardless of the outcome, it is impressive what Carlos has achieved," Seidl said.

"He has had a lot of bad luck. He remained scoreless in six races, while there were certainly opportunities. But when the material is in order, he always performs well, very impressive."

Sainz is one of the most mature drivers on the grid and has performed well this season. He will hope to have proof for this by finishing the season 6th.
