Christian Horner: Ferrari are using some "pretty juicy fuels"
Christian Horner believes that Ferrari are now the team to beat after their impressive comeback after the summer break. The Red Bull boss believes the Italian team are using some "juicy fuels" to aid performance and that Mercedes now know what it is like to be the second-fastest team.
"They are pushing the boundaries and you have to think some of it is coming from the electrical power, the combustion I think they’ve got some pretty juicy fuels that they’re running as well.
"It’s probably a combination. These things are never usually a silver bullet, it’s probably a combination of factors," Horner told Channel 4.
"It’s extremely impressive, they are the benchmark in the engine department in Formula 1 at the moment," he said.
"Mercedes were there for four-and-a-half years and suddenly, they’ve got a dose of our medicine, looking at the speed traces going ballistic.
"Hats off to the Ferrari guys, they’ve found a way of extracting that horsepower and it’s up to the rest of the competition to narrow that gap."
It will be hard for Ferrari to beat Mercedes this season but it should be a competitive final third of the season.
