Giovinazzi receives time penalty post Singapore Grand Prix!
- Nicolás Quarles van Ufford
Alfa Romeo Racing driver Antonio Giovinazzi has been dealt a ten-second penalty post-Singapore Grand Prix, although it won't affect his P10 finishing position as he was 17 seconds ahead of Romain Grosjean in P11.
Giovinazzi drove another very good on the back of his best-ever finish in Monza in front of his home fans, with the Italian now finishing tenth under the floodlights at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
He even led a lap of the Grand Prix before stopping, making him the first non Mercedes, Ferrari or Red Bull driver to lead a full lap in 2019.
However, when the Safety Car was deployed and a crane was on-track to clear a retired car at turn 8, all drivers were instructed by the marshalls to keep to the right. Giovinazzi came way too close to the crane and the people clearing the debris, which is why he was given the penalty.
Watch the incident here and judge for yourself; he was too close to the crane, wasn't he?
