Ricciardo admits Monza result was "overdue" for Renault
- Tom Mason
Daniel Ricciardo recorded a 4th place finish at Monza and the Australian is hopeful that the team can continue to build on this form at the other types of circuits on the gird.
Ricciardo's teammate Nico Hulkenberg came through in 5th to provide a positive weekend for the team and in the process the highest haul they'd achieved at a race weekend in ten years.
“I felt it was a bit overdue because really since Canada we hadn’t had a strong team result,” The Aussie said after the Italian Grand Prix.
“We finally got maximum points if you know what I mean."
"That is pleasing. I want to give an extra special shout out to Viry, to the engine boys, because this sort of result here as a Renault team and power unit is quite a statement.
Renault are likely to have a tougher race this weekend with the team not being as strong at slow speed, high-downforce curcuits to date this season.
They're currently 18 points behind McLaren who occupy 4th in the constructors' standings.
