Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has “no doubt” that four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel can bounce back from his troublesome form and the Italian Grand Prix to contend for race wins again.

At the Italian GP Vettel made a costly mistake at the Ascari corners which ruined his race from fourth place.

The German was clear of fifth place and running behind the leaders before he spun onto the grass and then emerged onto the track in a dangerous manner, nearly colliding with the Racing point of Lance Stroll, leading the Canadian to lose control of his car.

Vettel ultimately finished in 13thout of the points while his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc took his second victory in two races, but Wolff insists the 32-year old can’t be written off yet.

Wolff said (quoted by Autosport): "I'm just saying, don't write him off.

"He's a four-time world champion, and the difference between the great ones and the good ones is that the great ones are able to get up again.

"And I have no doubt that he can do that.

"He's had a spell of bad races, and now it will be about the ability to get himself back into where he deserves to be, and [Italy] for sure is a bad day for him."

Ferrari’s pace advantage that was shown in Belgium and Italy will be tough for Vettel to replicate at the next races in Singapore, Russia and Japan due to the bigger demand of aerodynamics at the circuits.
