Bottas: "They were so quick on the straights"
Valtteri Bottas says that he "tried everything" to get the win at Monza on Sunday, but straight line speed was the difference between him and eventual race winner Charles Leclerc.
Starting third and running there for most of the race, the Finn pitted several laps later than Leclerc and his teammate Lewis Hamilton, leading to him having fresher tyres towards the end of the race.
Although he quickly caught up to the Monegasque, Bottas was unable to make the move and he put it down to the Ferrari's strength on the straights.
He said in the post race press conference: "We tried everything we could today as a team and personally I was giving everything I could for the win.
"For sure, it’s annoying because it’s so close – finishing less than one second behind the leader. But, yeah, at least I tried everything I could. We tried. The tricky bit was that they were so quick on the straights. It required us to be so close in the corners that it was not really possible to follow."
