Hamilton congratulates Ferrari as he claims his tyres "fell off a cliff"
Lewis Hamilton was forced to accept third place at the end the Italian Grand Prix after he locked up going into the first chicane on lap 42. The British driver was overtaken by his teammate Valtteri Bottas who failed to hunt down race winner Charles Leclerc.
Leclerc has now won back-to-back Formula 1 races after picking up his maiden victory at the Belgium Grand Prix last weekend. In the post-race interviews, Hamilton was quick to congratulate the 21-year-old.
"He did a great job. Congratulations to Ferrari and Charles. A lot of pressure from Valtteri and I. I did the best I could, but following so closely for that amount of time, the tyres eventually just fell off a cliff," Hamilton said.
"But nevertheless they were just quicker today. Much quicker in the straight line so even if we did get closer we couldn't pass. Not at all our day."
