LIVE | Formula 1 2019 Italian Grand Prix - Leclerc on pole, Mercedes P2 and P3!

8 September 2019 at 11:50

It's race day! Charles Leclerc will start on pole for the 2019 Italian Grand Prix as he aims a second successive race victory having won last time out in Belgium.

How does the grid shape up?

Charles Leclerc claimed a fourth pole position this season and will start at the front of the grid for the Italian Grand Prix. The Monegasque topped the timesheets in unusual circumstances as most of the top ten drivers failed to set a time after they failed to cross the line before the cutoff. Sainz was the only one to make it and his time wasn't enough to displace Leclerc at the top.

He'll be joined on the front row by Lewis Hamilton with Valtteri Bottas in third. Sebastian Vettel will start fourth and it appears to be a missed opportunity for the German given Ferrari's superior power.

Kimi Raikkonen and Sergio Perez have both received late grid penalties for taking new power units. Raikkonen will start from the pits after taking a new engine and gearbox whilst Perez will start in 18th ahead of Max Verstappen.
