Carlos Sainz "more focused" and ready to perform for McLaren
Carlos Sainz is topping the midfield battle and is feeling positive about where he stands in the driver's championship. McLaren announced a few months ago that they would be continuing with their two drivers for the 2020 season and this is one of the reasons for the driver's success.
"It is positive," Sainz said when asked by Auto Motor und Sport about how he feels at the halfway point of the season. "But I am convinced that we can also do something more. I have to adapt the set-up better to my driving style. I need to work better on Mondays, but it's a long process.
"Last year at Renault I learned a lot about tire management, thanks to data sharing with an experienced driver like Nico Hulkenberg. This made me more complete."
McLaren were the first team to announce that they were sticking with the same driver lineup and this took the pressure of off the Spanish racer.
"A driver who can calmly prepare for a race weekend is better than one that drives under the pressure of uncertainty. I don't know if the renewal makes me faster or slower. I'm certainly more focused."
McLaren will hope to continue to push for results and points and will hope to continue to dominate the midfield battle after the summer break.
