Charles Leclerc's mixed form has coincided with his team's varying fortunes but team principal Mattia Binotto has insisted that there are highlights to take from the opening half of the season.

Leclerc is yet to win a race at Ferrari having joined them from Sauber for this season. He was on course for a maiden victory in Bahrain but after dominating all weekend a mechanical problem forced him to finish third, with a safety car the only thing saving him from finishing off the podium.

The Monegasque has crashed out of two races including his home Grand Prix, but he did achieve four successive podiums between the Candian Grand Prix and Silverstone.

Despite his varying degrees of success, this season Binotto has been able to draw plenty of positives from Leclerc's season so far, highlighting his maturity.

"If I look at the first half of the season, then it was very positive, as Charles has matured," Binotto said as quoted by Motorsport-Total.com.

"There were high expectations of him and a lot of pressure on his shoulders.

"He knows that he is an important pillar of our present and future team.

"I think he's learning from his mistakes, and that's even more important," he concluded.
