SportPesa Racing Point is a new team this year and although they haven't shocked the world with their performances they have some momentum behind them and will hope to get more points in the second half of the season. Sergio Perez has driven for a number of Formula 1 team and is "optimistic" about the future of the team despite the highs and lows of the season so far.

“It has been great,” Perez said to Racer.com“Amazing. On track we haven’t had the results we hoped for – we knew that this year was going to be a transition – but I can see the big picture, and the future ahead looks very good and very strong.

“I knew it was going to be tough, but I thought, ‘not as tough as it is at the moment, and how it has been’. But I see how we are going to progress and how things are looking, and they are looking good.”

SportPesa Racing Point is 8th in the constructor's championship and will hope to join the midfield battle and push for podiums in years to come. Perez is hopeful that this will happen.

“I think this team has retained its strengths of being able to maximize its potential," he said. "Good things and good moments are coming. I look forward to it; we’re working very hard and I’m optimistic. And not just from that upgrade. I know exactly what’s going on around the team, what things are looking like for the coming years, so it’s not just based on that.”

Perez will hope to finish this "transitional" season well and that more competitive results are achievable next season.
