There could well be a Mercedes seat up for grabs at the end of the season, but George Russell has distanced himself from the seat currently occupied by Valtteri Bottas, instead, focusing on his aims with Williams.

Russell has gained many fans during his first season as a Formula 1 driver, despite not scoring a point in 2019. The Brit has outperformed his teammate for most of the season and almost got out of Q1 during the recent Hungarian Grand Prix.

Russell moved to Williams as part of his Mercedes contract and has even tested for the Silver Arrows this season. With Bottas' future up in the air, Russell could be in line for his seat but it appears he's focusing on his current team.

"Personally, I think that's very, very unlikely," Russell told MotorsportTotal.com.

"But anything is possible - in Formula One, things sometimes change overnight, as we've often seen.

"The fact is, Mercedes keeps an eye on everyone - on Valtteri, on Esteban, on me.

"Every driver dreams of being able to drive in a car. It would be totally stupid to say no, but right now I'm fully focused on my responsibilities here."
