Alonso: “Return to F1? I had the best first half of the season possible!"
Seeing Fernando Alonso back in a Formula 1 car is a dream for many. But once again, the Spaniard confirmed it's not his wish at this moment in time. In another Q&A session on his Instagram, the two-time F1 world champion answered the questions submitted by fans.
One fan asked if the final part in his career would be the best ending if he returned to F1 and won his third F1 world championship. Even the prospect of winning the crown for the third time didn't push Alonso.
"No. Surely not. All the dreams I had in F1, I've had immense luck in fulfilling them all! Well...more than I would have dreamed. So trying to be the best in any category, any car seems to me today a dream as ambitious as almost impossible! And it's exciting," Alonso said.
"I've been surprised a bit by how many people talked about that [Mercedes seat for Alonso in F1]. I had the best first half of the season possible. Winning a world championship, Daytona, Sebring, Le Mans...! If one day I decide to come back, you will know it!"
During Alonso's final few seasons in Formula 1, he was troubled by the Honda engine. He once branded the engine inside his McLaren as a GP2 engine! Since the Japanese manufacturer joined with Red Bull, they've won two races and in Germany, Daniil Kvyat put his Toro Rosso in P3. When asked about his current opinion on the Honda engine, this is what Alonso had to say.
"Very good improvements! Happy to see all the guys that we did struggling at the begging of the program now getting more competitive! Also for Renault. I think both did a very good step forward and the sport will benefit in the coming years," Alonso added.
