Alfa Romeo Racing has bolstered its technical department after Alessandro Cinelli is set to join the team from Ferrari.

Cinelli started out in Formula 1 at Tyrell before working as an aerodynamicist for Williams for a few seasons.

He moved to Ferrari back in 2002 as an aerodynamics engineer, working his way up over the years to be the Head of Aero Experimental group.

Alfa Romeo boss Frederic Vasseur is ‘delighted’ for Cinelli to be part of the team.

He said: "I am delighted to welcome Alessandro to Sauber Motorsport and Alfa Romeo Racing.

"He joins a strong aerodynamics team and we are eager to see them continue the good work that was done so far.

“The recent appointments show how we continue to strengthen our structures and represent an evolution, rather than a revolution, of the system that has helped us progress in recent years."

Cinelli is looking build on the foundations that have already been made at the team to progress them even further.

"I join this young team with the mission to build on the solid foundations that have already been laid and to help produce results on track,” he added.

“I am confident we can continue on the right direction and bring even more success to the team."
