Red Bull to "push" Honda for more during 2019 F1 season
Christian Horner has admitted Red Bull will be "pushing Honda for more" during the current Formula 1 season. Max Verstappen delivered Honda their first win in Austria since making their return to the sport.
Honda has improved the reliability of its engine significantly over the previous 12 months. Horner agrees and tells the Formula 1 website that any upgrades will now be purely for power improvements. He also says Red Bull will be asking for more improvements throughout the current season which might be enough to topple Ferrari.
“Reliability has been strong – we still have all three engines available to use (per driver). They have only introduced new engines based on performance increments," Horner said.
“We’re pushing for more in the second half of the year, which they have in the pipeline. Now they have tasted success and they see the benefit that success brings. After the difficulty of their reintroduction back into F1, the victory was the tonic they needed.”
Verstappen is ahead of both Ferrari drivers in the Formula 1 driver championship, while they are chasing down Ferrari in the constructors.
