After qualifying in eighth place for Sunday's British Grand Prix, Lando Norris will have been expecting more than an 11th placed finish and no points from his first home race.

Norris was battling with Daniel Ricciardo for seventh place in the early laps, his McLaren team chose not to pit him under the safety car, which turned out to be a mistake as he had to pit later in the race, losing plenty of positions.

After the race, Norris told Motorsportweek.com: "The strategy, simple as that, we made the wrong decision under the Safety Car.

"We didn’t box when we should have done. Not gambling, but hoping a few more people would drop off at the end like Alex [Albon] did, but it didn’t happen.

"So, yeah, just in hindsight the strategy was the wrong thing but it’s not something we could have known as easily when we made the decision."
