Massa says plans to move Brazilian GP "sound like a joke"
The Brazilian Grand Prix might be moved to Rio in the near future. Felipe Massa, a former Formula 1 driver from Brazil, doesn't like the plan wants the president to think again before setting the move in concrete.
A Formula 1 race has been ever-present in Formula 1 since 1990. For those years, the race has been held in Sao Paulo. Due to financial issues, the president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro wants to move the race to Rio de Janeiro from the 2020 season.
Massa tells Globo that it's a bad plan. “It sounds like a joke to me. If you look around the world there are many circuits that are struggling or for sale. Rio de Janeiro will not be an exception. I am in favour of new circuits, but it will be a major financial problem for the people who are going to pay for this circuit privately. Think hard if it is the right choice to build this circuit in Rio," says the current Formula E driver.
