Binotto backs Leclerc to win a race this season
Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto believes that Charles Leclerc will get a race win "sooner or later" and thinks that the young Ferrari driver will develop and learn from the experience in Austria. Max Verstappen overtook Leclerc in the final laps of the Austrian Grand Prix in what was a controversial move which saw Leclerc leave the track. The stewards determined that the move was legal meaning that Leclerc finished the race in second place.
The situation split F1 fans but at the end of the day, it was hard to argue against the ruling of the stewards.
“We respectfully the decision of the stewards," Binotto said to the Official F1 Website. "They are the judge, we need to respect that. And more than that, as a Ferrari fan – and I am an ultimate Ferrari fan – I think it’s time for F1 to turn the page and look ahead.
“We are not supporting the decision but somehow we understand the fact we need to move forward and overall that’s good for the sport and good for F1. So bravo to Verstappen, the victory of him, he did a fantastic race today, as Charles as well. Charles drove very well, but there will be new opportunities.
"He’s simply looking ahead at the next races as a new challenge and he’s very hungry, so I’m pretty sure sooner or later it will be his time.”
Leclerc will hope that he can get a race win soon and after a disappointing few attempts at winning a Grand Prix, surely it is his time to win a race.
