Helmut Marko calls for Honda to "take more risk" when upgrading their engine
Red Bull's Helmut Marko has praised Honda's reliability so far this season but has asked them to "take more risk" when implementing power upgrades as they are still behind both Mercedes and Ferrari in terms of pure speed. Red Bull are sitting comfortably in third in the constructor's championship but will hope that they can bridge the gap to the top two teams with their Honda engine.
"The engine is incredibly reliable — we haven't had a failure," Marko said to MotorsportMagazin's YouTube. "Everything Honda has promised to us has been fulfilled.
"But our previous updates did not bring as much benefit as those at Mercedes and Ferrari.
"In the future, we would like to see a little more risk and hope for a power increase.
"We would rather start from the back with a stronger engine because if Max starts at the back, a thrilling Grand Prix is guaranteed.
"Together with our Japanese partners, we are now trying to take more risk. But that is difficult because they [at Honda] have a slightly different thinking culture."
Honda have impressed many so far this season and will hope that they can keep their reliability when upgrading the power of the engine.
