Ricciardo: "At the moment it's a bit easy for Mercedes"
Daniel Ricciardo has admitted "it's a bit easy for Mercedes" at the moment in Formula 1, but the Australian refused to place the blame at the door of the constructors and offered a potential solution to the problem.
Mercedes have won the last five World Championships with Lewis Hamilton claiming four and Nico Rosberg the only other winner in 2016. This season the Silver Arrows have been particularly dominant, securing a one-two victory in six of the eight races so far this season as the rest of the field play catch up.
Liberty Media's 2021 regulation changes are an attempt to make the sport more entertaining but Daniel Ricciardo offered his own solution to the problem.
"As a racer, I would love it if it is the same for everyone," Ricciardo said as quoted by Speed Week.
"That 20 drivers can determine who is the best. There would be a mix, it would not always win the same driver, it would be all close."
The Australian was honest in his assessment of how much of a challenge it is for Mercedes at the moment, adding: "At the moment it's a bit easy for Mercedes, but I do not want to criticize it. They do their job, it's up to everyone else to catch up."
