Brawn thinks Mercedes could have title won by Monza
- Bobby Vincent
Ross Brawn believes the dominant Mercedes team could have the title all won as early as the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
Lewis Hamilton dominated proceedings in France, with Valtteri Bottas finishing behind his Mercedes team-mate - to claim the side's sixth one-two finish of the season and its eighth win.
The Silver Arrows have a 100% record this season so far and have now got a 140-point advantage over its nearest competitors, Ferrari.
"If Mercedes keeps up this pace, it culd seal the constructors' championship by Monza, with a third of the season left," Brawn said, as quoted by Planet F1. "Let's be clear: Lewis, Valtteri and Mercedes are not to blame for a season verging on perfection, and it should be obvious that the rule changes we want to introduce are not directed against a team that is rewriting the record books.
"But we must all understand that the sport we love needs more competition, so that other teams can also aspire to podium finishes and it is not just a few powerful teams that dominate."
In fact, the last time a driver outside of Mercedes won a grand prix, was back at the end of October 2018 - when Max Verstappen of Red Bull was victorious at the Mexican Grand Prix.
