McLaren has said that there is no plan for Fernando Alonso to return to the team for the 2020 season as they are happy with their driver line up. Alonso remains an ambassador for the team and is thought to be involved in some other racing series with the brand. It has been reported that Alonso is free to join another team if he wished so the Spaniard's future is still very uncertain.

"We have no plan to put Fernando back in the Formula 1 car at McLaren," Andrea Seidl said to Motorsport.com. "We are very happy with Lando [Norris] and Carlos [Sainz]. They are doing a great job and they're the future for us - and that is also my focus.

"But he [Alonso] is still a member of McLaren, an ambassador for McLaren, and I think there will be a discussion in the future with potentially other racing projects."

"It is not possible for Fernando to be here at every race and be reserve driver," he said.

Alonso has not really commented on his plans for racing in Formula 1 in the future. We will have to wait and see if a return to Formula 1 is in the pipeline for the great Fernando Alonso.
