Toyoharu Tanabe "hopes for a strong performance" in race after disastrous Q2
Honda have had better qualifying sessions with only Pierre Gasly making it through to Q3 during yesterdays session. The other three Honda supplied drivers were caught up with an incident involving Kevin Magnussen which meant that they had to slow down on their flying laps. Honda boss Toyoharu Tanabe hopes that the Honda supplied cars will come through the pack and finish strong.
"Today, only one of our four cars got through to Q3," Tanabe said after the race. "Pierre Gasly was our sole runner in the final session and he did a very good job to secure fifth place on the grid.
"Unfortunately, the red flag came out in Q2, just as Max Verstappen, Daniil Kvyat and Alex Albon were on their quick laps, but they had to abort their runs.
"As for tomorrows race, we can still hope for a strong performance, especially from Pierre, as it was clear from FP3 that both our teams improved the performance of their package overnight."
Honda will hope that Verstappen, Kvyat, and Albon all manage to finish inside the points later on today else it could be a disastrous weekend for the Japanese suppliers.
