Mercedes set to keep red star tribute to Niki Lauda
Mercedes added a red star to both of their cars for the Monaco Grand Prix in memory of Niki Lauda. Toto Wolff vows to make this change permanent to tribute a man who was key to the success of Mercedes in Formula 1.
Lauda passed away on Monday after a long battle against ill health. The 70-year-old joined the team in 2012 and provided a vital role. The team painted their halo red for the weekend in Monaco and added a red star. Lewis Hamilton dedicated his win to the three-time world champion.
From today, the W10 will carry a single red star on its livery.

The red halo was just for Monaco, but Wolff confirms the red star will remain on the car.
“I’m really happy with the red Halo, and the little star – which is going to stay on the car forever – and the signature. It was nicely done," he told Autosport.
“So beyond that, unless we find something which we really believe is worth Niki Lauda, then this is what we’re doing.”
Lauda's funeral is taking place on Wednesday. Hamilton confirmed he will be in attendance. Reports suggest that Lauda will be buried in his race overalls.
