Chase Carey says viewing figures are rising despite dominant Mercedes
Chase Carey, the boss of Liberty Media's F1 project, admits Mercedes' dominant start to the 2019 Formula 1 season hasn't helped deliver the best action on the track. However, he claims the viewing figures are increasing.
“Despite the fact that the races did not deliver the expected drama, we see the TV audience grow by 3% in the last four races and 6% more people came to the circuits. We will continue to focus on strong growth in all digital aspects," Carey revealed during a discussion with the stakeholders of Liberty Media.
But most of the growth occurs in the social media sector. Liberty Media have been keen to improve this area in a bid to grab the attention of the younger audiences.
“For example on social media: the number of views has grown by 55% compared to last year. The number of minutes that people watched has risen by 83%. Nevertheless, we have to make racing better and that is one of our main priorities: increasing competition, action and the unpredictability of the sport on the circuit," said Carey.
