Herbert names best driver on the grid: 'Up to the rest to change that'
F1 News

Former F1 driver and former steward Johnny Herbert has shared his favourite for the 2025 F1 season. According him, fellow Briton Lando Norris will be crowned champion this year.
While the McLaren driver is the favourite according to Herbert, the former driver did not rule out defending champion Max Verstappen either. "Max has done a good number of laps and he will always be in the running because for me he is the best driver on the grid at the moment. It is up to everyone else to change that," he explained to a British betting website, after pre-season testing came to an end in Bahrain.
On the other hand, in the constructors' championship, he has already ruled Red Bull Racing and Mercedes completely out. "In the constructors, however, it is between McLaren and Ferrari. I would still go for McLaren at the moment because I know how consistent that car has been on every circuit we have seen them on since the second half of the season. The Ferraris still have to prove that," Herbert continued.
'Norris favourite for world title'
McLaren had a positive three days in Bahrain a week ago, and while Herbert admits that the different conditions can undermine seeing the full picture in terms of how the teams rank on the grid, he still expects Norris to claim his first-ever F1 title. He also named the two drivers Norris would have to watch out for.
"I’m going for Lando. He’s got the knife between his teeth. He’s learned a lot from his fight against Max. I think he’s learned what he has to do to beat him. But he has to be very, very careful with his teammate, because I think Oscar is going to be in the mix too," he concluded.
