'Verstappen will need to learn how to control his anger this season'
- Savannah Lenz
Juan Pablo Montoya has spoken about the 2025 Formula 1 season and who he thinks might reign as champion. In a conversation with Casinoapps, he spoke about current champion Max Verstappen and his chances during the 2025 season, comparing him to Ayrton Senna.
At the start of the 2024 Formula 1 season, Red Bull Racing was in a tumultuous state. However, they still had one of, if not the best car. That is until the Miami Grand Prix, where McLaren and Lando Norris managed to turn the tables in their favour. This season, Montoya thinks that for Verstappen to dominate once again, Red Bull Racing need to provide him with a better car.
Montoya on Verstappen's 2025 Chances
Montoya said, "If Red Bull can deliver Verstappen a good car, he can keep bringing good results for the team throughout the season." Verstappen was able to pull off the win last year without the best car. However, the competition has gotten tougher. If Red Bull Racing can not do that, Montoya thinks Verstappen will need to work on his anger. “Verstappen is so used to having the upper hand, so he will need to learn how to control his anger and finish races in a worse car."
He continued, "Verstappen is the dominant driver at Red Bull, and Liam Lawson will try to find his feet. I think Lawson will play nice as the number two driver, but when he finds some pace, he will push Verstappen.” This is the first new teammate Verstappen will have in three years, after being paired with Sergio Perez from the 2021-2024 Formula 1 season.
On the other hand, Montoya thinks highly of Verstappen and his drive. Despite thinking Verstappen needs to "learn to control his anger", he also thinks that "Verstappen is probably the closest driver to what Ayrton Senna was, where you see the aggression and his ability behind the wheel."
