Liam Lawson asked Alex Albon for advice on Max Verstappen and Red Bull

Lawson asked Albon for advice on Red Bull: 'Got sick of me asking!'

Red Bull's latest driver, Liam Lawson, has revealed that he asked former Red Bull driver Alex Albon for advice whilst the pair raced in DTM together. Lawson took the opportunity to ask Max Verstappen's teammate in the latter stages of 2019 and 2020 about his experiences at the Milton Keynes-based team.

Lawson asked Albon for advice a few years ago:

Albon drove alongside Verstappen at Red Bull for a year and a half before he was dropped. In 2021, he spent a season in DTM, where Lawson was his teammate. The pair drove in Ferrari GT3 cars with backing from Red Bull. "So when we were in DTM, he probably got sick of me asking him all the questions, but I asked him a lot of questions about Red Bull and about what it was like in the team and how the car was," Lawson told Sky Sports.

Despite not completing the full season, Alex Albon won a race at the Nurburgring. Teammate Lawson won three and was incredibly close to winning the title.

"I know the car was different back then, but honestly, the characteristics are probably quite similar, and I've driven the car, and I can say that it is aggressive and it's probably quite hard to drive," continued the 22-year-old New Zealander.

'It was about confidence'

"So he told me it was all about confidence, and going up against Max, that's what it obviously takes. But in a way, obviously, I'm not just going up against Max. I'm going up against everybody, and as a team, we're trying to achieve the constructors," he added.

Lawson may turn to Albon again with today's knowledge. Of course, he will partner Max Verstappen at Red Bull in 2025 after a second short stint with VCARB. "I think he'll be somebody that I contact again now knowing this because obviously, this is all very, very new. I'll be on the phone to Alex for sure in the next few weeks and trying to get some more info!" The Kiwi concluded.
