'Lawson on Red Bull decision: 'I hope to hear soon'
- Savannah Lenz
The announcement of Sergio Perez's departure from Red Bull Racing is all but announced and it seems as if it is only a matter of time before the announcement is made. The biggest contender for Perez's seat is Liam Lawson but how does he feel about his chances?
Will Lawson go to Red Bull in 2025?
Perez's seat is highly contested, with both Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda as possible replacements. If they can agree to buy his contract out, Lawson or Tsunoda could join Red Bull. On the other hand, Lawson has not been officially signed for the 2025 season. Despite this, he will likely be on the grid under the Red Bull umbrella.
At the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Lawson was asked about his future with the Red Bull family and whether or not he had a place with either of the teams: Red Bull or Racing Bulls. Lawson told the media, including GPBlog, "I don't know yet. Obviously, my goal is to be in Formula One next year, but I don't know where that'll be right now."
There in the paddock, he said that he hoped to know soon. "I would hope in the next few days. I hope they don't leave me hanging too long. So let's see". It has already been over a week since he said this. Last week, both Lawson and Tsunoda took place in the post-season tests, which Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko said he was waiting for to help make the decision.
