Rui Marquez will be the new F1 Race Director from the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The Portuguese replaces Niels Wittich, who had held the race director role since 2022. Speaking to F1-Insider, Helmut Marko reacted enthusiastically to the appointment of the new Race Director.

Since Michael Masi's resignation after the eventful 2021 season, Niels Wittich has been the Race Director for Formula 1. He initially shared his duties with Eduardo Freitas, but since 2023, the German has been the sole Race Director.

Now, Wittich is leaving as Race Director. He has suggested he was pushed away, but this hasn't been confirmed by the FIA. Wittich's replacement, Rui Marquez, is already set to start. His first weekend as Formula One Race Director will be in Las Vegas.

Why Marko is enthusiastic about the race director change

Helmut Marko has responded positively to the appointment of the Portuguese, who was previously the Race Director for Formula 2 and Formula 3: "He has done a very good job. I think the FIA has made a good decision to present him now as Wittich's successor."
