Valtteri Bottas to race in gravel cycling championship

Bottas competes in gruelling cycling championship during F1 break

Valtteri Bottas has not been resting during the Formula 1 break between Singapore and Austin. The Finn competed in the Gravel World Championships in Belgium. He was in the amateurs 35-39 years category and finished 133rd. Bottas finished the course in 5 hours 40 minutes. He was just under 40 minutes slower than the winner.

After Bottas has had a disappointing 2024 Formula 1 season, with neither him nor his teammate Zhou Guanyu managing to score a single point for Sauber, the driver now only has six races left to get some points on the board. Bottas has not yet signed a contract for next year, with Nico Hulkenberg already set to occupy one of the Sauber seats.

The Finnish driver has been inspired by his pro-cyclist partner Tiffany Cromwell who competed in the women's leg of the cycling championship yesterday. Bottas has qualified for his age division in the Gravel World Championships. He had to cycle 181km across Belgium.

Bottas took to social media to share his excitement for a new type of racing.
