Villeneuve backs Verstappen amid Red Bull's issues: 'Max will be fine'

Jacques Villeneuve remains outspoken in the media. This season, he first criticised Daniel Ricciardo at the Canadian GP, and after continuing this trend, he has now set his sights on Red Bull Racing. According to the former world champion, the Austrians are not doing enough to help Max Verstappen to his fourth world title.
The past few months have been hard for the Red Bull team. The RB20 had several problems, and the team that could dominate throughout 2023 were struggling to figure out what caused their issues. Following the Azerbaijan GP, they have also lost the lead in the constructors' standings to McLaren.
Villeneuve thinks Red Bull should fix problems for Verstappen
Now, based on Red Bull's claims, they know where the problem lies. They can showcase at the Circuit of the Americas whether they could fix that. "They know at the team by their own admission what the problem is, so then it is important to start working on it," Villeneuve stated in conversation with Formule 1.
He continued: "You bet they will. And that they will continue to do so," said the Canadian, who achieved his title with Williams in the 1997 season.
The next challenge will be in Austin at the US Grand Prix in two weeks time, where the updates will be necessary, as Verstappen can afford less and less to have Lando Norris finish ahead of him every weekend. "But with Max it will be fine," Villeneuve's concluded. The current gap between the two drivers stands at 52 points in the drivers' standings.
