Max Verstappen is leaving Singapore feeling satisfied after finishing second during Sunday's Grand Prix. The Red Bull racing driver was pleased with his performance, but is aware of the challenge ahead of him if he wishes to keep Lando Norris behind in the championship.

Verstappen limits damage with important P2 in Singapore

With Norris far out ahead, and a significant gap behind him, Verstappen was very much alone during the race. "I was by myself. I tried to do the best I could and manage my own pace to the end," he told David Coulthard after the Singapore GP.

"The first stint was a bit difficult for us, quite a bit of tyre degradation."The second stint was a bit better, I was a bit more comfortable," the Dutchman added. "On a weekend we knew we were going to struggle, P2 is a good achievement."

Nevertheless, Verstappen admitted he would have liked to have one if he had the chance: "Of course we are not happy with second. Now we need to improve more and more and that's what we will try to do." With Norris' victory, the gap between the pair is now 52 points in the standings. If Verstappen wishes to hold him off, something needs to happen: "That can change quickly. We need to keep on trying and at one point try to overturn it a bit, not always finishing behind. But, we will see how that goes."
