There have been many rumours surrounding the seat of Daniel Ricciardo at Visa Cash App RB and whether he will be replaced. But now, reports from the Swiss newspaper Blick say that the Australian will be replaced after the Singapore Grand Prix by Liam Lawson.
There was suspicion throughout the on whether Ricciardo would stay on the grid for the rest of the 2024 season, especially after Ralf Schumacher said that the race around the Marina Bay Circuit could be the last of the season for the Australian.
Ricciardo replied on Thursday at the paddock in Singapore, saying that "crazier things have happened in the sport." However, he did not specifically rule out whether it would be his final race.
'Lawson to replace Ricciardo after the Singapore Grand Prix'
If the rumour is true, then New Zealander Lawson will take a seat in the VCARB car from the United States Grand Prix onwards. Last season, Lawson drove for five races on behalf of the team, then called AlphaTauri, replacing Ricciardo as he recovered from an injury sustained at the Dutch Grand Prix. A big reason as to why Red Bull have been compelled to make this decision is that there may be a clause in Lawson's contract, and should the team fail to comply with that, they may see him walk from the team entirely.
For Ricciardo, a change in driver would mean the end of his Formula 1 season after his 257th Grand Prix in F1, a milestone he will reach after completing this weekend's race in Singapore. There is a lot of speculation as to whether it will be the last race for the Australian in the premier class of motorsport with the grid almost full for the 2025 season. Ricciardo also spoke about other racing series that could be of interest to him if he does leave the sport.
