Oliver Goethe joined the Red Bull Junior Team at the end of last year. The Danish-German driver made his debut in Formula 2 at Monza as the replacement for Franco Colapinto, who replaced Logan Sargeant in F1. Goethe told GPblog about Red Bull's reaction to his debut and what it means for him to be part of their Junior Team.

Goethe received unexpected news just before the Italian Grand Prix, as he was given a seat in Formula 2 at MP Motorsport to replace Franco Colapinto. During the sprint race in Monza, his race ended early due to a crash with Zak O'Sullivan. In the feature race, the Red Bull junior finished in P16.

The Danish-German driver answered GPblog's question about having talks with Red Bull after the races. ''Of course I've had debriefs after the weekend,'' he said.

Overall, he was quite satisfied with his first F2 weekend. ''I think I said it at the start, I was making good progress throughout the weekend. There was a lot of unlucky moments that didn't go our way, so the results weren't fully there. But I think for a first weekend, I showed the pace I can have. I think it'll only get better from here. It's a positive start and there's more to come.''

Red Bull help Oliver Goethe immensely

The MP Motorsport driver spoke full of praise and enthusiasm about being part of the Red Bull Junior Team. ''It's a massive privilege to be part of the Red Bull Junior team,'' Goethe began. ''They're an amazing team in F1. Recently, they've been the best.''

The 19-year-old also expressed his goals with the team. ''It gives me a good ambition, a good goal to drive with them in F1. That's where, in the long term, I want to be. It's definitely a great privilege. They've been helping me out financially, but also with preparation. They have some experienced guys giving me good advice. It's a privilege and I hope to return the favour by performing well and hopefully that will get me into their F1 team one day.''

Lewis Hamilton has recently spoken out about the fact that without the McLaren Young Driver Programme, he would never have had the financial backing to get into Formula 1. Goethe supports Hamilton's statements and stressed how important Red Bull is for him to be able to enter Formula 2.

''Lewis said it pretty straightforward. It's super expensive to race in the feeder series nowadays, especially F2. It's the most expensive one, so it always takes a lot to come up with the budget. Thankfully, this year Red Bull have been helping on the financial side, but also supporting me as a driver and with preparation and other aspects. It's a lot of money and it's a big, big commitment for sure,'' Goethe said.
