Ferrari are momentarily in the corner where they are not the ones taking jabs at their opponents. While the competition continues to improve, the upgrates at the Maranello team are not catching on. Frederic Vasseur only saw Carlos Sainz score points (fifth) and that is not enough for the team that want to go for the world championship this season.

The last three or four races have not really been going smoothly for Ferrari, Vasseur acknowledged in conversation with the Italian branch of Sky. "We had reliability problems in Canada and the new package in Spain gave us some problems. It was also difficult in Spielberg, although we showed good pace with Charles in qualifying. This weekend was a bit of the same story."

The Ferrari team principal states that two different packages were driven on Friday and that on Saturday and Sunday, Leclerc and Carlos Sainz ended up driving with the same parts. "It was unfortunate that it was raining, but if you look at the race Carlos drove, there was potential visible. After 25 laps, he was a tenth behind Max. When we look at Budapest, we will decide whether to go for the new specification or the old specification."

Chances of World Cup title

"I think Silverstone is one of the most aggressive circuits when it comes to the bouncing of the car, which is one of our weaknesses. We solved it this Sunday and I think that is reason for optimism," said the Frenchman. "We are still second in the constructors' championship and we need to regain the momentum of the first part of the season. We are 70 points behind Red Bull and that is a lot, but with two cars in the points it is certainly not impossible."

Red Bull Racing are on 373 points after the British GP, while Ferrari have 302. Number three McLaren collected 295 points so far in 2024.
