According to Helmut Marko, Sebastian Vettel has knocked on Red Bull Racing's door several times for a Formula 1 seat. Red Bull, however, thought it wouldn't have been a good plan to put Vettel next to Max Verstappen.

According to Marko, Vettel asked for F1 seat at Red Bull

During the Grand Prix weekend in Imola, a memorial was held to Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger, who lost their lives 30 years ago on the same race weekend after an accident at the track. The commemoration was led by Vettel, reviving talks about a possible F1 return for Vettel

Marko says Vettel has on several occasions expressed interest in a seat at Red Bull, the team with which he achieved his greatest successes. The Red Bull advisor, however, does not think it is a good idea for the four-time world champion to drive alongside Verstappen. "He has asked us several times, but I think he would not have a pleasant time next to Verstappen," he told Formel1.de.

The 81-year-old Austrian does not see a Vettel comeback as a driver happening at all. "Comeback? Where then? I think he is going more towards Porsche and endurance racing." A perfect solution for Vettel then, according to Marko. The World Endurance Championship calendar has only eight weekends, fitting well into Vettel's private life.

Vettel retired from F1 in 2022, as he left his Aston Martin seat to Fernando Alonso. The now 36-year-old German wanted to spend more time with his family. The four-time world champion also felt his participation in the sport got in the way of his commitment to the environment and nature. Still, Vettel never completely ruled out a return to the grid.
