Perez after Q1 exit: 'The weekend is totally over'

For Sergio Perez, qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix ended before it started. The Red Bull Racing driver did not progress beyond Q1 for the second year in a row at the Monte Carlo street circuit, and the Mexican believes his weekend is all but over.

Drama for Perez and Red Bull

For the third F1 weekend in a row, Red Bull is having a tough time. In all free practice sessions, the RB20 proved difficult to drive, leading to disappointing results. For Perez, he says, the weekend is already pretty much over after qualifying in 18th.

"A disaster, because, firstly, on my lap, I got into a lot of traffic into six, into seven, and then were some stickers laying down on the apex of turn eight, so I had to avoid all of that, and I ended up losing a couple of tenths that would have been enough to get through. I mean, I was half a second of P1, so it was just a complete disaster, unfortunately. Basically, the weekend is totally over, because here there is no chance to overtake, unfortunately," says Perez.

Ahead of qualifying, Red Bull managed to find something to improve. "Yeah, I mean, this morning we were finding the light. I was P5, and we made some more changes, but unfortunately, there were not enough to come through, and It hurts a lot. I think just putting a normal lap in would have been enough. But with the traffic that we encountered, it was really difficult." Perez said.
