Verstappen concerned by McLaren: 'We need to get going'
- Wouter Bos
Two wins in one day. Max Verstappen has done it. Speaking to Viaplay he talked about the race in Imola and his battle with Lando Norris. He also explained why the two ended up getting so close.
It was hard work for the Dutchman. He says that was because of the tyres: "That last stint on the hard tyres didn't go well. On mediums it went okay, but after that I had no grip at all," Verstappen said after the race. In the final laps, the race winner tried to stay cool: "I just try to get the best out of it without making any mistakes. Then you see that Lando is getting closer, but then of course you don't have to start forcing extra."
Verstappen's victory comes in a difficult weekend for the team. "It was just difficult all weekend. I did everything I could to win." Whether the victory tastes sweet? "Yes - especially when you see that I am not the fastest. So of course I'm very happy."
McLaren closing in
Is Verstappen going to worry now that McLaren are getting closer with Norris? He does see that something has to be done: "Of course you can see that McLaren is really very strong, even already in Miami. We need to get going."
