Charles Leclerc finished on top in the first free practice ahead of the Grand Prix at Imola. In his Ferrari, he was faster than drivers such as Sergio Perez, Lando Norris and even Max Verstappen. The Dutchman had a difficult day, especiall in Acque Minerali, and finished fifth. Alexander Albon even caused another red flag in the first free practice at Imola.

Albon caused a red flag during the first practice session with 39 minutes left on the clock. The Thai-British driver suddenly parked his car on the grass and was later unable to continue the session. It took some drivers some getting used to the new track modifications first introduced this weekend, as quite a few of them made trips to the gravel trap or grass.
