Helmut Marko speaks on Newey's future: 'Red' or 'Green' for the Brit?
- Tygo Bekkema
Helmut Marko has reacted to current events in the Formula 1 world in an interview with Austrian company OE24. The Red Bull Racing team advisor stressed that it is currently important to "regain calmness" within Red Bull. The Austrian also took the opportunity to correct his statements about Adrian Newey' s future.
In an earlier interview with Sport.de, Marko said Adrian Newey might choose a 'green team'. Aston Martin, in other words. The 81-year-old now says that was a misunderstanding. "I was clearly misunderstood. I would rather choose red."
Despite the former chief designer's departure, Marko still foresees a strong future for Red Bull. At the same time, the veteran is also aware of the effect Newey's departure may have on the team. "The most experienced guy will no longer be with us and I am afraid he will leave for a rival team. But I don't think we will experience a technical collapse because of this. We just have to focus on the World Championship now and get the team calm again," Marko stated
Verstappen's future
Marko also commented on Verstappen's future at Red Bull. For now, the Austrian sees no reason for the Dutchman to leave. "The 2026 regulations are definitely a turning point. But Max wants to drive in the car in which he is most likely to win, at the moment that is Red Bull. As long as we give him a car that can win, I assume he will stay with Red Bull."
