Wolff doubts Newey can fix Mercedes: 'Even greatest magician will struggle'
Adrian Newey is in Miami for the last time on the track on behalf of Red Bull Racing. He will devote himself to the Hypercar project of the Austrian team until the first quarter of 2025 when he will then leave Red Bull. The Briton's next move is not yet known, although he has been linked to Ferrari on several occasions.
Toto Wolff is also interested in the engineer, he told Sky Deutschland: "You should never say he is not, not welcome at Mercedes. He is an incredible engineer," Wolff explains. This opens a door for the Briton, as he did with Verstappen. However, he rates the chances low: "But at the moment, even the greatest magician would probably struggle to solve the problems at our place."
Stumbling giant that is Mercedes
Mercedes is no longer the Mercedes it was a few years ago, much to the dismay of everyone in and around the team. The team is fourth in the constructors' standings and has not managed to win a race since the 2022 Brazil race. A stumbling giant that just can't seem to move up. The two drivers start the Miami Grand Prix in seventh and eighth place and hope to find their way up.
