Lando Norris impressed in the Chinese Grand Prix by finishing second, putting himself between the two Red Bull Racing drivers. After the race at the Shanghai International Circuit, Helmut Marko praised the Briton, although he does not call the McLaren driver an option at Red Bull for the time being.

The Austrian formation is still looking for a second driver alongside Max Verstappen for next season. Sergio Pérez currently has the best chances, but the Mexican really only wants to extend for two seasons or more. Red Bull prefers to keep their options open for 2026 and presumably wants to offer a new one-year deal.

Norris extended his contract at McLaren early this year. He is reportedly under contract with the Woking-based team until 2027, making him unavailable for now. Nevertheless, Marko is keeping a close eye on Norris' performance, as he is an interesting driver for the future.

Norris and Piastri 'interesting' according to Marko

"He is young and is on our minds," Marko told ServusTV in China. Marko has already spoken to Norris' family once. "His father always jokes that Lando won't grab his first Grand Prix victory until Max (Verstappen) retires. I told him to come to us, then it will definitely be faster," he laughed.

"But Norris is not an option in the short term, nor is Oscar Piastri," Marko continued. Indeed, Piastri too recently signed a contract that committed him to McLaren until 2026. "But both drivers are definitely interesting for us in the future."

Norris has been on the podium 15 times in 109 F1 races. Although he has been close on a number of occasions, he has never crossed the line first. After five Grands Prix this season, he occupies fifth place in the world championship with 37 points.
