Should Red Bull be worried? 'Newey spotted near Maranello'

16 April at 16:00

He is one of the most sought-after people on the Formula 1 paddock: Adrian Newey. For now, the top designer seems to be staying in place at Red Bull Racing, but that does not mean he is not exploring his options, according to Auto, Motor und Sport. Based on German medium, Newey was recently spotted near Maranello, Ferrari's home ground.

Rumours about Newey increased since things got unsettled at Red Bull, especially around team boss Christian Horner. Ferrari has been mentioned many times, but recently it was also suggested that Aston Martin had made a significant bid for the Chief Technical Officer of Max Verstappen's F1 team. However, Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack claimed to be happy with his current technical line-up.

Nevertheless, Newey would now be looking around, according to AMuS. The German medium believes that Newey is not served by internal political games and the power struggle allegedly going on between Horner and Helmut Marko. At the same time, it clarifies that Newey is stuck with Red Bull until 2026, so a possible switch would not be in the cards until after 2025.

'Newey spotted close to Maranello'

That things are serious for Newey would be evident from a recent visit to Italy. The 65-year-old Briton was reportedly spotted at Bologna airport, just 40 kilometres from Maranello, Ferrari's home ground.

Newey has been linked with a move to Ferrari on several occasions. Moreover, he confirmed last year that talks had taken place with the Italian racing stable, but that he was not keen on the move with his family. The rumours grew stronger when his wife, Amanda Newey, liked a tweet stating that her husband should go to Ferrari.
