The FIA is keen to welcome an 11th team to the Formula 1 grid and Andretti Racing was a leading candidate for it. In the end, the American team were given a 'no' by the FOM and so a line went through an F1 entry (for now). However, Andretti is not giving up and is still making preparations to enter the premier class of motorsport in the future. A new factory was opened on Wednesday.

'We have said that our work continues at pace – this new facility embodies that work. While we are building an American works team, having a European base is a great way to attract the best in F1 talent and install state-of-the-art machinery," Andretti wrote in a statement.

Andretti continues to work hard

So Andretti still remains hopeful that they will still be on the F1 starting grid in a few years' time. "We have embarked on the next stage of our preparations to enter the FIA Formula One World Championship™ with the opening of a new facility at Silverstone Park, UK. Joined by the existing Andretti Cadillac UK workforce of approximately 80 people, we had the honor today of inaugurating this new British home for our wider Andretti family."

The building is 48,000 square metres, offering the flexibility to expand operations as developments dictate. This new building includes facilities for production, model and machine shops, R&D (research and development), as well as additional office and meeting spaces.
